More than 25 years ago, PPODS began as a small group of parents determined to improve the lives of children with Down Syndrome. Over time, PPODS developed important connections within East Stroudsburg University and at the Arc of Northeastern Pennsylvania to create a thriving organization, which provided social and educational information and opportunities to its families. However, as the first generation of PPODS children grew into adulthood, PPODS faded and many of the services previously provided were discontinued.
In 2007, the second generation of PPODS families began revitalizing the organization. They resumed monthly meetings, offering emotional support, information and resources to families with children with Down Syndrome. They began new traditions such as the annual holiday party, and partnered with the National Down Syndrome Society to bring a Buddy Walk to the Pocono area. PPODS has also offered workshops, scholarships and grants for assistive technology to some of our PPODS families.
All of this has been possible due to the great help of the PPODS community, including the many wonderful volunteers and generous sponsors who have supported our mission. There is still much work to be done to fulfill this mission. We hope you will join us and become part of the PPODS community. Our Team
