PPODS’ annual Buddy Walk is an opportunity to promote community awareness of Down Syndrome, raise money to support PPODS activities and the mission of the National Down Syndrome Society, and to have a great time. PPODS has been hosting an annual Buddy Walk since 2008, in some years attracting more than 1000 visitors. The event typically includes food, raffles, vendors, exhibits, games, music and, of course, the great Buddy Walk around the park. Even Elmo and Scrunchie The Bear have been spotted at PPODS’ Buddy Walk! In recent years, the Buddy Walk has been combined with the annual Buddy Ride hosted by our sister organization, PPODS North, creating a larger and even more exciting event.
Many different groups march in our Buddy Walk. Although individuals with Down Syndrome and their families comprise the majority of our marchers, teacher and student groups, including boy and girl scout troops can also form teams and show their support.
This year’s Buddy Walk is sponsored and organized by the North PPODS and Friends Support Group. The 2017 Buddy Walk will be at the Camp Speers in Dingmans Ferry on September 24, 2017 from 12:00 to 4:00 pm. Planning for next years events will begin in the Spring. Please send us an email if you would like additional information or can volunteer your time or expertise for the 2017 Buddy Walk. Here is the map to get to Camp Speers.
